Grand Junction, CO (PRWEB) March 26, 2014

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) announced this month that it will open a BridgePathways® center on its Grand Junction, CO, campus this summer. One of four universities to open a BridgePathways center this year, CMU is dedicated to providing its international students with the tools they will need to succeed in their education and cultural experience at a U.S. university.

CMU is a comprehensive public university and is located in the beautiful high-desert country of western Colorado, just four hours west of Denver. Offering more than 60 undergraduate majors including business administration, mechanical engineering and health sciences as well as select graduate programs and certificate programs, CMU provides diverse study options on a state-of-the-art campus. Almost all programs include a practical application of knowledge and skills as a key component. The low student-to-faculty ratio of 22:1 allows for greater student participation and enhances the learning environment.

CMU students enjoy a diverse number of organizations spanning all interests including academic, athletic, cultural and recreational. From a dynamic Outdoor Program offering affordable trips and equipment to a wide range of active student life programs including the International Student Alliance Club, CMU has extensive options for international students both in and out of the classroom.

CMU is located in the safe and friendly city of Grand Junction and offers its residents unparalleled views of the Grand Mesa and the Colorado National Monument along with an excellent climate and limitless recreational opportunities. Local attractions include an active downtown with shops and restaurants, festivals, arts, music, theatre, skiing and snowboarding, hiking, biking, golf, tennis, rafting, kayaking, camping and more.

BridgePathways is excited to provide CMU’s international students with the added advantage of an intensive academic English curriculum focused on critical writing with coursework designed to prepare students for university assignments. Students also practice essential speaking and listening skills needed for successful participation in discussions and lectures.

BridgePathways at CMU will have six start dates throughout the year, offering 8-week terms, and will accept students at an intermediate level. Qualified students accepted to the program will receive conditional admission to the university, allowing them to enroll in the university upon successful completion of the BridgePathways program.

A full immersion experience, academically, culturally and socially, is an essential component of the BridgePathways program. Bridge students at CMU will be housed on campus and be provided with structured activities designed to get them actively participating and integrating with campus life and the community. In addition, they will have full access to the college’s facilities such as the Hamilton Recreation Center, the University Center and many clubs and organizations.

“BridgePathways students at Colorado Mesa University will feel at home on our welcoming and friendly campus,” said Rick Taggart, CMU Executive Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment. “From our Outdoor Program excursions, campus-wide activities and events organized by the Programming Activities Council, and the use of our state-of-the-art facilities, students will have the opportunity to experience the university culture and will feel prepared to enter one of our more than 60 academic programs of study after successful completion of the language program. Students will also live in our residence halls and benefit from activities and programming events designed especially to fit the needs of international students.”

CMU is truly passionate about providing educational opportunities and tools to help students succeed in a complex and interconnected world, all built around a strong liberal arts core. Now, BridgePathways at CMU will offer an authentic American experience for international students seeking a degree from a U.S. university.
