DAVENPORT, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The American Freedom Foundation, Kaplan University and new philanthropic partner, SERKET Racing, are proud to announce that a scholarship program specifically for spouses and children of veterans or active military members is open for applications.

SERKET Racing, a Porsche racing team that was founded with the goal of raising awareness and assistance for those who have honorably served and sacrificed for our country, is a new partner to the program. “Our team is highly aware of the obstacles that veterans face upon their return home,” said SERKET Racing driver and former Marine, Mark Llano. “We are excited to work closely with the American Freedom Foundation and Kaplan University to assist these veterans and their families in their time of need.”

The American Freedom Foundation, SERKET Racing and Kaplan University coalition will help promote and raise awareness for the scholarship program, which has already awarded over 500 scholarships to eligible military family members. The program will provide up to 250 scholarships, each providing coverage of over 50% of tuition costs for complete degree plan.

“The American Freedom Foundation/Kaplan University Military Family Scholarship program provides a great opportunity for us to support military and veteran families,” said Sergeant Major of Army (Retired) Jack L. Tilley, Cofounder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the American Freedom Foundation. “We are delighted that Mark Llano and SERKET Racing are joining the fight, and supporting our mission. Together we can change even more lives through education.”

Patrick Milligan, Assistant Vice President of Kaplan University’s Military Affairs, added, “SERKET Racing’s commitment and enthusiasm for helping military families is a wonderful addition in helping us get the word out about our scholarships.”

To be eligible, spouses and children of veterans or active military members must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the previous college or high school studies, whichever is the most recent. In addition, for every 50 scholarships awarded one full scholarship will also be awarded among the recipients. A website has been established which provides full conditions and an online application at scholarsapply.org/aff. Applicants can also call 855.727.2604 for more information.

Kaplan University offers a multitude of services for online military students, which includes help from specially trained admissions, academic and financial aid advisors in the Military Student Support Center. In addition, the University reduces tuition for active-duty service members, military veterans and military spouses by 55, 38 and 10 percent, respectively.
