Why People Work?

Most people in this world have to work to earn a living. Each person has different motivations for working, as consequence, the reasons for working are as individual as the person. However, we all work because we obtain something that we need from work. What we obtain from work impacts our morale, motivation, and the quality of our lives. There are three reasons why people work: To earn a living, to travel for health reasons, and to improve themselves.

One of the prime reasons why people work is due to the fact of earning a living. Most people apply to a job in order to enjoy a decent standard of living. Having a steady job provides them the chance to meet their family basic needs such as housing, food, and clothing. Moreover, they can also pay their taxes and water supply. For example, workers ranging from those who operate a small business to those who have temporary jobs as freelancers need to hold a job to have a shelter and food for themselves and their own families.

Another reason why people work is for health issues. Some people suffering from certain diseases choose to do medical tourism. This kind of tourism refers to people travelling to another country for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment in that country. For instance, India is a feasible option considering the advanced medical techniques that the country has made in the field. People who choose to go there know that not only are the doctors highly skilled and trained, but also the costs involved are lower compared to their native countries. Moreover, there are some treatments that are not legal in the home country, such as some fertility procedures.

In addition to earning a living and going abroad for medical tourism, people work due to self-achievement. Some people choose to apply for volunteer work such as working at a library and tutoring primary school children. Some others prefer to take up a job where they can upgrade their computer or communicative skills. For instance, they choose to improve themselves by setting goals so they can become better workers, job prospects, and be more productive at their workplace. As a consequence, their self-esteem arises from reaching out for difficult but achievable goals, which contribute to the idea of self-improvement.

In conclusion, many people work for different reasons. Those/these reasons may vary from one individual to another, but they are equally important. The majority of people work to earn a living, others to go abroad for medical tourism, and some others just like to work to improve themselves. Any of the reasons will benefit their true selves in the future.
