The responsibility of any individual in the society is measured by his/her compliance with the legally instituted laws of the society. Whether a law is just or unjust does not warrant an individual to disobey them. Unjust laws can be repelled through legal procedure but it should not be disobeyed.Laws are designed to guarantee the peaceful coexistence of people and to maintain sanity in the society, though some may not be convenient to the individual.

What makes a law unjust? Is it when it makes the individual uncomfortable or when it's legalized by politicians with selfish interests? If a law is in place to pave way for the award of contracts to party financiers then it may be viewed as unjust. Such laws can be resisted through civic demonstration or through the court of law. Outright disobedience of the law will incur the wrath of the law.

Every individual has a civic responsibility to obey the law whether it is just or not. A traffic law in the society to reduce accidents on roads not only safe others but the individual driver. Obeying this law shows a that the individual is a responsible road user.

Some laws in the society are as a result of primitive beliefs that can not stand the test of modernity. For example, in some part of the world there are laws that degrades the pride of a woman, women circumcision. This barbaric law is meant to reduce the sexual libido of the woman.
