Fifteen years ago Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors Since that time Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes and overall student

From the above proposed, the author is stating that in order to secure better jobs for graduates in Omega University they should terminate student evaluation of professors. Here are the two specific pieces of evidence that are needed to evaluate the argument.

Firstly, the new procedure to evaluate the teachers effectiveness was implemented fifteen years ago, so there might be many students entering into the university and getting graduated. Does this mean that students do not have the capacity to score the highest grades? There are many students entering into universities with different skills and knowledge. As it’s been fifteen years, there might be an increase in grades of students as many students may enter the university and have different levels of IQ. For instance, consider an example that in the year 2010, five hundred of students entered the university in which only hundred of them performed better. On the other hand in the year 2011, eight hundred students entered the university in which five hundred students performed better. Thus the passing rate would differ and would have increased in grades. So this doesn’t mean that this is due to the evaluation for teaching effectiveness. This is because there is an increase in the number and also the IQ of students. Also, stated that overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by 30 percent. As it’s been fifteen years there might be an increase or decrease in grades. It could be better if the author has provided every year’s rise of grades in the Omega university. We are not sure if there is a rise in grades every year. There might be a chance of skimpy grades in some years also. Thus, these statements do not hold the water.

Secondly, the author stated that Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. Do graduates passing out from Omega University and Alpha University are the same? There may be a difference in the number of graduates passing out from the universities. If that is so, then obviously the graduates getting jobs would differ based on the universities. Also, the statement does not clearly state in which year this happened and that could be this year and before years the students who graduated from Omega University have got jobs more than the students in Alpha University. Thus, this statement also does not hold water due to the above reasons. Consider an example where 200 students got jobs from Omega University while 300 students got jobs from Alpha University and this might be in only that year and this could be vice-versa for the previous year. Also, there might be a reason where few graduates choose to do business and it depends on the student’s interest in some fields and aim to get accomplished in those fields by knowing about the field profoundly and opting for higher education may also be the reason for it. So there might be many reasons for it.

In conclusion, the argument, as it is considerably flawed now, due to several unwarranted assumptions, it could be better if the author has provided yearly statistics of the universities (how many students got graduated, how many of them got a job, how many of them opt for business). Also, in order to secure a job it is based on the students’ potential and build a lucrative career. Thus, there is no need to terminate student evaluation of professors in the Ommega University.
