The well-being of a society is enhanced when many of its people question authority.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Society is defined and built by the people. Well-being of a society depends on the actions of the authority. Government departments, management of private companies and university administrations, all have profound effects on the welfare of its people. People have right to question the authority for development of the society. It’s fact that change in the society will occur when people question the authority.

In democratic countries, People have right to state their opinions and to fight for the truth, rights and justices. Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bharat Singh are some of the great leaders who fought for the independence of India against British government. Indians raised their voice with the great leaders and fought against the British people. Finally, on 15 of August in 1947 India got independence. If no one has thought to question the authority for the freedom then Indian would never get independence from British.

Additionally, India is well-known for corruption; is increasing like a vast development in technology. From clerk to minister everyone is corrupted in India. None has raised the question towards authority about corruption; government officials used to ask and people are habituated to bribe them. Anna Hazzare, an inspiring leader started his talks and rallies against corruption. His aim is to achieve anticorruption; his talks energized the youth and people came forward to support him. At first, government didn’t care his motives but when people got awareness, it sacked some of the government officials. Questioning the authority always gives rise to increase in well –being of society.

Last but not the least, Africans- Americans civil rights movement is a great example for fight for the right against the authority. African- Americans were treated as slaves by Americans and they were never allowed to use their civil rights. Martin Luther King, leader of this movement gave many demonstrations on these racial discriminations. Finally, his speech “I have a dream” motivated American government and brought success in achieving civil rights of African-Americans. I would say that people have right to question the authority for rights, for a cause and for truth because people are there to ask for the correct thing.

In sum up, Questioning the authority brings positive change in the society. People should believe in their thought and fight for that rather than struggle; this leads in increase of well-being in society.
