Claim: The best way to understand the character of a society is to examine the character of the men and women that the society chooses as its heroes or its role models.
Reason: Heroes and role models reveal a society's highest ideals.

The claim stated by author is a polemical topic. The statement says, role models and heroes should be examined so as to get an idea about the character of a society. The reason given in its favor states that such actors and public figures usually depicts the society’s highest or peak ideas. I, to some degree, actually agree with the aforementioned claim as a hero is always a person who is assumed to carry a decorum and social ideals that makes him a role model.

In support, as all know, the Bollywood is full of variegated personalities. But in spite of several actors, the ideals that Mr. Amitabh Bachchan carry, are considered as epitome of society. Many common people and other actors contemplate those values as their life’s role models. Because of this, if those social behaviors are looked into, we can assume that that examination is actually depicting the summit of society values. Not even male actors, likewise, one of the most beautiful woman in the world, Mrs. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, also exemplifies the peak ideals of society. Her behavior, communication, etc. all are considered as the most sophisticated and urbane way of expression, because of which, she is always seen and followed by many people in not only India but also in other countries.
Also, it is natural that in whatever way an actor or actress behave, they are always on media. They are well aware that any reaction of their, is actually seen by millions of people on their television sets. As a repercussion of which, they always show their highest ideals while interacting not only with media, but also with their fans. Thus, studying their reactions, we can get an idea about the character of a society.
Although, one can argue that what about the actors that do not carry their ideals with them and always giving bad exemplary to people. To this, a point should be kept in mind that the examination of ideals or study of character should not be done on every other actor. Some public figures are not carrying their highest values and thus can be seen as a threat or the lowest of values. For example, some years back Mr. Sanjay Dutt was excused of keeping illegal guns, in this case, this gives an example of bad values of society and hence, should not be examined.
To conclude, it depends on which actor you are researching. To get the idea of highest values of a society, one must consider a public role model carefully.
