The two graphs compare the proportion of post-school qualifications held by Australians in the categories of 25 to 34 and 55 to 69.

As can be seen from the graphs, there was a threefold increase in the the number of people with qualifications. The most noticeable change was the dramatic decline in the percentage of engineering graduates.

It is clear from the information supplied that comparing two age groups, the younger group had a considerably higher figure for degrees (347,500 compared to 104,800). Another noteworthy feature is social sciences and arts being the most popular subjects which, as a group, accounted for approximately a fifth in both age groups. While some subjects were more popular to people between the ages of 25 and 34, some experienced a decrease in popularity. Science, maths and computers gained by over eight percent; a nearly four percent fall was recorded in medicine.
