The piecharts show changes of British people in spending pattern for past over 30 years.

Food and cars were the two biggest items, together they comprised more than 50% of total budget spent. In 1971 food accounted for 44% of spending, but it significantly dropped to 14% after 30 years. The outlay on cars, in contrast, icreased to 43% in 2001 from only 22% in 1971.

The percentage of eating in restaurant and computers seem to have an upward trend. While eating out doubled in 2001, the expenditure on computer went up sixfold bigger than did in 1971. However, as computer expenditure rose, the outlay of books declined.

Bristish spent approximately the same amount of money on petrol and furniture in both years.
In conclusion, the increasing of expenditure among UK residents was in term of cars, eating out and computer. However, there were downward trend in food, book and petrol between 1971 and 2001.
