University courses are not compulsory curriculum but many people; in particular student graduated high school, still demand to attain it. There are numerous reasons conducting people think learning at this place is crucial, intellectual enjoy or intend to broaden knowledge in order to serve public, for instance. However, from my point of view, this phenomenon is triggered by two factors: economic reason and social reason.

The economic reason is that qualification from university help people to build their career path in intensive competition of job seeking nowadays. Academic achievement of people is handicap for this tough circumstance because when employer have to reduce amount numbers of applications; university’s degrees will be used as one of filtering. Some people may argue that this criterion is not final factor for choosing candidates as much as personal skills or competences. However, it is undeniable that the first thing employers seem before meeting real person is application papers. In this step, these certifications are valid proofing that candidates have proper training and suitable for positions, while abilities mentioned in papers is still unseen evidence support. For example, when I worked for famous book publishing company, my boss always receive uncountable letters of job application. Constrain by limit time, he cops this situation by usual neglect the papers demonstrate sender have no college’s degree.

For social reason, in many societies, study at university is social value. In other word, people never pass this process are labeled lower status than who done it. Ranking people by education level may seem similar to the first reason (higher education level mean higher job opportunities), but different because the benefit of certifications is not a job positions, but respect from people. This reason influence many children feel guilty when fail to apply for desirable department or college, and committed suicide thereafter.

To recapitulate, people pursuit for university studying opportunities because it provides people preparation and handicap in job market, and because they are influenced by social trend. It is undeniable that considerable numbers of student are motivated to study highest education level because intellectual reason. However, in overview, people study because academic motivation is less proportional in comparison to the mainstream reason which mentioned.
