The bar graph illustrates the changes in estimated number of Asian elephants in both 1997 and 2004. It is immediately apparent that maximum number of Asian elephant was in India while the least number was in China.

To begin with, India had higher number of elephant in 1997, at 10000, the figure dropped by 7500 in 2004. Vietnam and Laos had the similar number of population in both years, at 1000. Malaysia and the Sri Lanka had 3000 elephants in 1997; the figure dramatically fell in Malaysia up to 1000 whereas in the Sri Lanka number of elephants decreased at, 2500.

Furthermore, Myanmar had the just over the 5000 elephants that was the second highest among all countries. Thailand had the 4000 elephant in 1997, the number of the elephant significantly decreased in 2004, at 1000.

In conclusion, the trend was downward overall. India remained number one on list while the despite of the size, China had very small population at most 500 elephant by 2004.
