The graph shows the proportion of population aged 65 and over in Japan, Sweden and the USA. Overall, it reveals the information about the increase of the percentage of elderly people in three different countries to 25 % in a century.
The proportion of population aged 65 or more slightly rose in Sweden and the USA between 1940 and 1960. However, the figure for the Japan fell approximately to 2,5 % over this period. While it remained constant to around 1990, the numbers for the Western countries grew nearly to 15 %. At the present time this graph indicates that there is 5% in Japan, about 14 % in the USA,probably 17-18% population of elderly people in Sweden.
There will be fluctuations in the next 30 years, the predictable percentage will continue to increase by the year 2040. But in Japan it will sharply rise by 15% from 2030 to 2040. In 2040 the proportion of older people will be almost 25 % in all three countries.
