The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much

The pie charts showthe amount of unhealthy ingredients like sodium, saturated fat and added sugar contained in daily meals consumed by people in the USA.

It is clear that breakfast is a relatively healthy meal compared to the other three types, with the least proportion of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar. By contrast, dinner consumed by Americans usually accounts for a larger proportion of these nutrients, except for added sugar, which is consumed from snack.

In more detail, the largest percentage of sodium consumed by people in the USA is from dinner, at about 43%, followed by the second highest figure at 29%, from lunch, whereas that figure for breakfast and snacks are both at merely 14%. Similarly, dinner had by Americans also contained the most saturated fat at 37%, while only 26%, 21% and 16% are from lunch, snacks and breakfast respectively.

In terms of added sugar, it is not surprising that snacks included the largest proportion of it, just above 40%, while the figure for dinner is at approximately half of that, and only 16% and 19% from for lunch and breakfast respectively.
