The graph below shows the amount of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.

The line graph compares the expenditure on books in four different countries over a 10 year period from 1995 to 2005.
It is clear from the line graph that all the amounts of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy, Austria increased noticeably. Additionally, the figure for Germany was by far the highest amount of money during the research period.
In 1995, the expenses on books in Germany was highest, at $80 million. By contrast, the figure for Austria was significantly lower, at only $30 million. About $55 million of books were spent by people from France compared to $50 million from Italy. After 1999, although the amount of money the German spending on books decreased significantly, it was higher than the starting figure of the period, at approximately $85 million. Meanwhile, the other three figures gradually went up.
In 2005, the expenditure on books in Germany rose slightly to roughly $98 million and became the highest figure compared to other countries, while the amount of money wasted on books Italy and France gradually rose, at $62 million and $70 million, respectively. At the same time, the figure for Austria increased sharply from $40 million in 2001 to over $70 million at the end of the period.
