The graph below shows the unemployment rates in the US and Japan between March 1993 and March 1999.( IELTS Book 3 test 4)

The line graph compares two coutries in term of unemployment rates over a 6-year-period starting in 1993.

It is clear that this rate in US fell dramatically from March 1993 to March 1999. By contrast, there was a sharp increase in the number of unemployment during research period in Japan.

In March 1993, the unemployment rate in US was 7.0 percentage of workforce which higher than Japan at the same time, just under 2.5 percent. This figures of US went down to 5.5 percent by March 1995. Then, it was progesstive stably to March 1997. After that, the number of unemployment dropped smoothly to over 5.0 percent.

There was a lagre jump in this rate from under 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent over a period of 6 years starting in March 1993 in Japan. It progessed stably for 2 years . Afterwards, this figures went up dramatically to over 4.5 percent. In March 1999, Japan's rate was higher than this rate in US.
