The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries

The line graph compares and contrasts the percentage of people aged 65 or more in three different countries over 100 years.
Generally speaking, three nations all saw an upward trend, and it's expected a dramatic increase in Japan during the last 20 years.
From 1940 until now, there were wild fluctuations in the proportion of the elderly population in three countries, although the trends were upward. In detail, the figure for Japan started at the point of 5%, then reduced remarkably to roughly 3% in 1960. It plateaued at this value during the following more than 25 years before having a significant growth to about 8% in 2020. Besides, during the first 80 years, the people were 65 years old or more, which rose by 11% and 6% in Sweden and the USA, respectively.
Looking into the future, the proportion of the elderly people in Japan is predicted to go up steeply to hit a peak of 27% at the end of the period. Meanwhile, the last 20 years will experience growth in the figure for the rest nations to reach 23% and 25% by 2040.
