Some people think watching TV is bad for children, while others think that watching TV has more beneficial effects on children. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
In this contemporary setting, watching TV is given paramount significance to children. Some are of the opinion that watching TV has detrimental effects on children, others differ in this opinion. Considering this situation, it is crucial to explore this from two perspectives.
To begin with, to let children watch too much TV can cause many negative effects, as children are vulnerable. To be precise, many TV programs contain various dramatized, gory scenes and filthy language, and if children have exposure to these scenes constantly, which may increase their feelings of aggression, hostility, and irritability. Hence, this tends to have disastrous repercussions in their future developments. Besides, there is a potential risk for their health. This is mainly because, after being exposed to screen for a long period, children’s eyes are vulnerable to eye ailments such as short-eyesight and dry eyes. As a result, they might foster a sedentary lifestyle, and this can jeopardize their health in the long term. Consequently, children may suffer from health problems in their future life.
On the other hand, watching TV can bring some benefits to children too, as it is an integral part of their holistic development. To be specific, learning daily-used vocabulary through different channels is helpful, as they can present children conditions where expressions are used, thereby facilitating the comprehension and use of language for them. Therefore, it will have a contribution to help children learn language skills in their formative years. In addition, many educational channels prefer to use appealing and engaging cartoons to stimulate children to watch, which helps them concentrate and accelerate learning. Thus, watching TV is a pragmatic approach to help children acquire knowledge.
To sum up, watching some inappropriate contents and having long exposure to the screen can cause some problems for children. But, by no means, should we turn a blind eye on the benefits which help children accelerate learning and concentrate on learning. From my point of view, watching TV can brings many drawbacks in their formative years.
