The passage mainly explains that cane toad, which is American frog used to control some insects pest in Australia, while its population be increased and then several ways used for preventing from harm native insects. However, the lecture introduces some evidences that these strategies were not successful.
First, the article claims that national fence is built for preventing from spreading of cane toad, this way was successful for other animals in past. The professor casts doubt this point by saying that national fence could not prevent from spreading of cane toad since young toad and its eggs carry by rivers and streams readily and spread in other side of the fence.
Second, the reading points that human can capture and kill cane toad easily; therefore, government makes a volunteer plan for reducing its population by the hand or trap capturing. In contrast, the speaking says that untraining volunteers are killed native frog since they could not distinguish which are native or nonnative. It provides dangerous condition for native frogs.
Third, researchers are evolving a disease-causing virus to handling cane toad, which virus only impact on cane toad not other reptiles and amphibians, as the author claims, is repudiated by the lecturer. She mentions that this virus not only impact cane toad in Australia, but also impact on cane toad in American due to transport from Australia to there. This virus is more dangerous in America since cane toad is native in there.
