TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The article states that allowing the employee to work for four days a week would profitable to company’s capital and economy as whole and provides three reasons to support. However, the professor explains that it will not affect the economy or could not be beneficial to company considering some major aspects of that scheme and refutes each of author’s reasons.

First, the reading claims that giving employee three holidays a week mean four working day can increase company’s profit and worker would feel rested and alert, company can hire new staff to get work done. The professor refutes this point by saying that it will not raise the profit of company due to the additional costs that they need to put. He states that as the company recruit new workers and make large worker group, they would need more money for their training and medical insurances. Moreover, the additional cost like purchasing computers, dresses for new staff cut from the profit. And he also conveys that in the worse case scenario, company could come up with high expectation from employees for

Second, the article posits that four day workweek would benefit individual employees as they could afford some extra time over extra money. The professor opposes this point by claiming that the more free time one has the more risks they could face in career. He states that leisure time could affect badly on job stability of the employee. He also points out that it could also harm their chances of advancement of career. Lastly, he emphasis the argument that company management would have five to days to supervise and it could pile up pressure on them as they would have to manage the worker shift more deliberately.
