TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The reading passage says that a four days workweek will benifit both the company and individual employees. On the other hand, the lecture shows that how four days workweek will affect the company as well as the employees.

First, the passage shows that as the workers will work for fours days a week, more workers can be hired in less payment and it will benefit the company economically. However, the lecturer opposes the point by explaining that hiring more employees will force the company to spend money on more training, new computers, new office space and so on. It will increase the cost of company and soon cutout in the company revenue.

Second, the passage says that four days workweek will open an opportunity for new full-time employees which will reduce the unemployment problems. The lecturer refutes the point by saying that the companies might think five days work can be done in four days and they can ask employees to do overtime which will be a pressure upon the employees. Therefore it will not create any new job opportunities.

Finally, the passage claims that because of four days workweek employees will feel more relaxed and can spend more time with their families. Whereas the lecturer shows that how four days workweek can decrease the job stability and harm the employees in their advancement of their career. He explains that during the economical downtown, four days employees are more likely to be fired. In addition, four days employees are less likely to be promoted as companies prefer to promote the five days workers.

Though the reading passage show the benefits of four days workweek, the lecturer points out the disadvantages of it.
