In this set of material is discussed about the tidal power as an alternative way to produce energy. However the lecture refutes the belief in the reading passage and is cast doubt.
Fist of all, is mentioned in the reading passage the fact that the tidal power is a great technology which must exploit the potential. Besides, is considering this system as a non-polluting renewable technology that furthermore, contributes to the environment because does not produce dangerous gases. In addition, the energy formed by tides could be the solution in order is not used fossil fuel reserves.
Nevertheless, contrary with the passage, the lecture pointed out that this system has several implications to the local ecosystem and economy. Firstly, is mentioned the impact of the water quality by affecting the local life on the sea, to be specific the fish diversity and paralysis in many aquatic creatures, this is because the salinity is increased when the tidal power is used Secondly, can be destroyed the habitats of birds. Fish migration patterns are affected owing to, the fishes can not be able to pass through the barrage freely. Finally the economy in the local people decreases due to the fishing boats no are able to navigate in those areas.
For these reasons must be considered the tidal power as a potential way of energy production.
