The reading and the lecture both discuss fossils. The author of the reading believes that private collectors have some negative influence on these kinds of ancient evidence and provides three reasons. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes reasons by providing detailed information.
First and foremost, the author claims that the common people cannot see some fossils when private collectors have been buying and keeping them. The professor challenged this point. He thinks that these collectors will buy these stuff to schools and universities, so students and other people can see them in public places.
Second, the author mentions that by buying and selling fossils by some traders, scientists cannot access to these evidence. The professor rebuts this point by pointing out that undoubtedly, this is not realastic, because scientists should tell others about the value of these things, so the first person who see these fossils is a researcher. The lecturer states that scientists can say that a fossil is valuable or not.
Last but not least, the reading says that most collectors are some uneducated people who has a good ability in trading, so they will damage these things, because they are not aware of anything. Furthermore, in the contrast, the lecturer refutes this point by explaining that this is not a good excuse for scientists to lay down and do not discover many new fossils.
