TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task Ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugar cane, has been advocated by some people as an alternative to gasoline in the United States. However, many critics argue that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasol

Both passage and lecture discuss one of alternative source of fuel, which is ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugars cane. The writer is of an opinion that ethanol is not good source for replacement with gasoline, however, the lecturer rejects this viewpoint.
Firstly, lecturer states that increase use of ethanol will not create environmental problems of global warming. Professor continues by saying that it is true that burning ethanol releases Carbon dioxide, but growing up plants such as corns, will compensate the release of Carbon dioxide that were came from burning ofethanol, because plants use and absorb Carbon dioxide from atmosphere in order to grow up. Therefore, by planting more plants such as corns, it will eliminate carbon dioxide from environment and as a result, use of ethanol will not cause global warming. On the contrary, the author believes that since use of ethanol like gasoline produce carbon dioxide, it will increase global warming.
Secondly, the professor claims that use of plants for production of ethanol will not reduce plants for animal uses, because ethanol can be produced from ceillious, which is a part and a cell of plants. It is mentioned in the lecture that these ceillious are not eatable and animals do not eat them at all. So, using plants for producing ethanol do not lower amount of food for animals that feed on plants. By contrast, the article argues that use of plant for the sake of production of ethanol, will lead on reduction of food for animals.
Finally, although the writer claims that if the government stop helping the manufacturer of ethanol by giving tax subsidies, the price of ethanol will increase, the speaker challenges this claim by stating that by increasing buyers of ethanol for using as a fuel, the production rate of ethanol will grow which in turn, will result in decreasing price of ethanol. Moreover, the professor argues that studies show that by extending production of ethanol three times, the cost of ethanol will drop down 40 percent. Therefore, if the government remove giving subsidiaries for producers of ethanol the price of ethanol would not increase.
