TPO-27 - Integrated Writing Task The little ice age was a period of unusually cold temperature in many parts of the world that lasted from about the year 1350 until 1900CE. There were unusually harsh winters, and glaciers grew larger in many areas. Scient

The reading passage states that the little ice age, which was a period of the unusually cold temperature of the world was happened from about the year 1350 until 1900CE, and then provides three reasons for what caused this phenomenon. The lecturer, meanwhile, casts serious doubts on this claim and believes that none of these ideas are up-to-date. In fact, new information describes the little ice age differently.
First, the reading asserts that disrupting of ocean currents in a period of unusually warm weather may have caused the little ice age, yet the professor refutes this claim by saying that this cooling happened only in the Europe and North America. As a matter of fact, if this case was valid, why it did not occur in the Australia and southern hemisphere.
Second, although the reading passage posits that volcanic eruption may have caused the little ice age, the professor makes the argument that this is true when there is enough dust to cool down the climate. He comments that since there is no vivid report about the happening of the eruption and its consequences like brown snow, colored clouds, it cannot be the case. Thus, the volcanic eruption was not robust and significant enough to affect the climate.
Third, the passage declares that because of the substantial decline in human population, it may have contributed indirectly to the climate change. Moreover, the reading author adds that since trees started growing on fields in the absence of the people, they absorbed more carbon dioxide and then green house effect that keeps the earth warm might have decreased consequently. The professor, however, believes that it is improbable for the earth to get cooler because human population was recovered quickly. In essence, they grew their food and used forests for their needs. Therefore, there was not enough time for forests to cool down the earth and limit the greenhouse gas.
