TPO-32 - Integrated Writing Task Starting in the 1960s and continuing until the 1980s, sailors in Russian submarines patrolling the North Alantic and Arctic Ocean would occasionally hear strange sounds. These underwater noises reminded the submarine crews

The issue both the reading and the listening focus on is theories of undefined sounds heard by sailors in Russian submarines but the listening disagrees at three main points.

At the first point, it is stated in the reading that these underwater noises were communication between ocra whales. According to the listening, this theory is unconvincing. Although there are ocra whales living in mentioned areas but they lives near water surface and therefore, Russian submarines were unable to hear sound which they emitted. Moreover, whales are likely to tracked by radars of submarines.

At the second point, the reading believes that the strange sounds may originate from giant squid because of their lack of skeleton and soft bodies. On the contrary, the listening argues that the mystic sounds appeared only from 1960 to 1980 and disappeared after that but the squids still live until today.

At the last point, the reading argues that submarines of other countries could be the cause of the sounds. However, the listening confirmed that the sounds changed directions very quickly and it was impossible for submarines to do that. More notably, there was no engine sound like "quackers" which supports the listening perspective.
