TPO 33

In the reading passage, the author claims that there are three viable hypothesizes regarding the main purpose of carved stones ball, which are types of round shape, artificial stones made in the late Neolithic period. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in text and states some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that carved stone had produced with the aim of the hunt or the fight. Conversely, the lecturer contend this idea that all the weapons attributing to that era such as ax were wearing. She adds that although the balls have cracks and even some of them have been partially broken, the surface of them remains undamaged and well-preserved. Therefore, this usage for the craved stone seems infeasible.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that basic weighting system would be another doable purpose for carved stone balls. On the contrary, the professor dismisses this idea by clarifying the fact that this theory is entirely unpersuasive. In fact, having had various weights, craved stone balls could not have been applied in this way. She explains that the stone would have been practical for measurement purposes if they had been the same weight. Consequently, since varied types of stones were constituted these balls, which admittedly diverse densities are what differentiate the weight of different stones. Subsequently, this application is not convincing as well.
Finally, the author asserts that the carved stone balls represent the social status of the prosperous individuals in that span of time. The professor, thought, repudiate this point by subscribing the fact that there are some incompatible issues concerning this assumption. The first one is that all of the stone balls are simple and do not contain such intricate patterns. Moreover, the precious belongings of the high ranked people were buried with their death body, but none of these stones has been unearthed from the graves nonetheless. Subsequently, they could not have been served as a personal status.
