TPO 40

The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about a permanent station on Venus. Considering this, the professor discuss that it is completely possible to establish a permanent station on Venus. he states contend that it is feasible to build this station on high of 15 kilometers from Venus’s surface and it will be like flowing balloon. The information he presents contradicts facts outlined in the reading.

First, the lecturer mentions that in the altitude of 15 kilometers from surface of Venus atmospheric pressure is much lower that its surface and it is roughly equal to the earth’s atmospheric pressure; therefore, there would not be acute problem from atmospheric pressure. On the other hand, according to the reading due to high Venus’s atmospheric pressure which is 90 times greater than Earth’s atmospheric pressure all spacecraft and another thing will be crushed as soon as they reach to the Venus’s surface.

Second of all, the speaker states that even though there is no evidence of existing water and oxygen, there lots of other species such as sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide which can make water and oxygen thorough some chemical reactions. It means that, water and oxygen can be produce from atmosphere of Venus. however, the reading specified that atmosphere of Venus does not have any water and oxygen and to provide this giving life elements, we have to bring them from Earth which would be an unwise apt.

Moreover, the professor points out that in the height of 15 km light blocking in significantly less and by then we have two resources for getting electricity from lights. First, use direct sunlight and second, we can gather reflected sunlight from lower layer of clouds which can dramatically intensify efficiency of solar power cells. Nevertheless, the passage made it clear that on the surface would be little sunlight due to thick clouds. Hence, there is no electricity for machines and other equipment.

To recapitulate, the passage contend that it would be impossible to establish a permanent station on Venus, while the professor not only casts doubt on it, but also allege the it would be completely possible to build a station on the height of 15 kilometers.
