TPO-40 - Integrated Writing Task Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would

The article states that condition on Venous are so extreme and inhospitals that maintain humans presence would be impossible and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor states that there is a soulution to maintain human life on Venous by establishing a station that float on the planet surafce about 60 km and not standing on it. And he refutes each of the author’s reasons.

First, the reading claims that atmospheric pressure on Venous’ surface is 90 times greater than on the Earth, so any thing, including spacecraft, would land on it would be crashed. The professor opposes this point by explaining this pressure is lowered above Venous surface. If we build a spacecraft above 50 km above the surface, there is no danager of being destrooyed by the planet’s Atmospheric pressure.

Second, the article avers that since there are no reservoirs of water, no oxygen, and the planet’s atmoshphere made up mostly of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulpheric acid, establishing a permanent station on venous would be impractical. The professor, on the other hand, refutes this point by stating even though no water, or oxgyen on Venous, undergoing chemical processes can produce them. He explains that by using the elements that made up of Venous atmoshpere, we could produce oxygen, and water easily. Therefore, there is no necessary to supply all necessary elements from the Earth.

Third, the reading posits that a very little sunlight reaches the planet’s surface, because, it reflected by thick clouds, made from carbon dioxide, that fill the atmoshpere. The professor agrees that the thick clouds is truly reflect 60 percent of the sunlight. However, above the planet’s surface the clouds become less thick, so sunlight could reach the floating station on constant level. Meantime, the professor, emphaisez the benefits of using the reflected sunlight as extra source to use. And thus, he concludes both the sunlight that comes from above, and below the surface could be collected.
