TPO-42 - Integrated Writing Task Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture, yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds. Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air, millions of birds are harmed every year when the

The reading specifies that there are three main ways to prevent injuries to birds. However the lecture casts doubt on these approaches and brings up three main reasons to reject specific points made in the reading passage.

First, the author asserts that using one way glasses instead of regular glasses can help to solve the problem. On the other hand the lecture states that replacing regular glasses with one-way glasses is not useful in view of the fact that one-way glasses reflect light like the mirror, and birds are not able to understand the mirror. If the glass reflect the image of a tree, birds will fly right into the glass because birds perceive it as a real tree.

Second, based on the reading, painting colorful lines one regular window glass can be a solution to the problem. On the contrary, the lecture contradicts this idea, reasoning that colorful designs includes some unpainted areas, and birds conceive those areas as holes. So, they try to go through these holes shapes openings.

Third, the reading's last point states that magnetic field can be used to prevent birds from being injured. Nonetheless, the professor challenges this idea by explaining that birds only use the ability to sense Earth's magnetic field when they travel long distance.
