Today, most buildings are made of the glass. Glass is a great material to design buildings but it is harmful to birds. Birds are not able to distinguish between glasses and open air and as a result, they could be injured. The reading suggests some solutions. In the lecture, however, the professor finds them inefficient.

First, the reading explains that architectures can use one-way glass instead of normal glass. Through these glasses, people in the building can see out but birds can not see in. Nevertheless, the professor clarifies that they are like a mirror so they reflect sky and tree and tempt birds to fly through them.

Moreover, the reading talks about colorful designs. For instance, windows can be designed with strips or another shape of color and it is like an alarm for birds to distinguish between windows and open air. The professor contends that it is not a good idea because birds can see the hall and fly through it.

Finally, contrary to the statement in the reading that creation a magnetic field would be helpful, the professor states that although birds are able to sense magnetic fields but they use this ability just for long distances. For example, in the winter when birds fly to warmer places they use this ability but they are disabled to use it in short distances like flying from one city to another one.
