The reading passage claims that some archeologist believes that the coin is not a genuine piece of historical evidence but a historical fake. However, the lecturer casts serious doubt on this claim by presenting some counter-arguments and examples. She argues that proofs in this claim are not convincing also other archeological have another opinion that there are some record which show that these coins do not fake.

Firstly, the lecturer contends that there were several objects that come from long distances due to, Native American can travel to the other side of the country, in order to obtain some new things, therefore it is possible that they bring coins from Norse settlement. This, however, is contradict to the passage mentions that the distance the Maine site and the Norse settlement suggest that the coin has no real connection with the settlements.

On the other hand, it is noted in the passage that no other coins have been found on the Canadian sites that were inhabited by the Norse, thus they did not bring any silver coin. In contrast, she clearly states that the Norse did not have any permanent settlement moreover, they packed up all their possessions when they came back to the Europe, hence we can conclude that maybe their coins consist of their staffs and brought them back.

Finally, the speaker points out that everything that look unusual is really valuable for Native Americans in addition the silver coin is really appealing to them thanks to its beauty because people in Norse could make attractive jewelries and necklaces additionally trade with Native American because they were really crazy about these kind of things. Nonetheless, the text asserts that Norse who traveled to North America would have understood that silver coins would most likely be useless to them.
