According to the passage, in the past animals were larger than today because of the three factors such as greater amount of oxygen, nutrients and warmer climate. However, the lecture contradicts the reading presented reasons and gives three explanations to fail author's views.
Firstly, the lecturer mentions that in past less oxygen concentration than today because of volcanic activities and poisonous gas. Therefore, reason presents that oxygen was responsible to greater animal growth were meaningless. In contrast, the reading states that oxygen rich atmosphere foster to growth of the animals.
Secondly, the speaker explains that it is true that high available plants and foods but no nutrients in earlier time. Fossil suggests that scarcity of the nutrients because plant need carbon dioxide to make nutrition but contaminated carbon dioxide were not useful. On the other hand, according to the reading, adequate nutrients and food to promote to increase the body size animals.
Thirdly, the professor points out that warmer environment animal need more energy to cooling their body temperature as result, release temperature rather than growing cell. Whereas, the reading implies that not need energy in warmer condition and it is use to generate body cell to make larger body.
In conclusion, it is clearly observed that the idea depicted in the reading has been refute by speaker with sufficient evidence and example.
