The passage provides some reasons behind the large animal bodies than today. However, the lecturer refutes on these reasons and contradicts it.

Firstly, the passage talks about the amount of oxygen. The passage claims that the large size body of animals must be due to the abundant amount of oxygen available. On the other hand, the lecturer opines that in the past, there were large amount of volcanic activities. Number of poisonous gases were present. So the amount of oxygen was less compare to today.

Secondly, the passage decribes importance of nutrients. The passage states that the abundant amount of plant life must had provided nutrients to the animals which were vital for the animals to fully grow. But, the lecturer says that there was the abundant amount of plant life but less nutrients were present. Researchers prove this result by examine the fossils.

Finally, the passage talks about a warm weather. According to the passage, the early earth's warn climate tended to simulate the growth because they had to spent less amount of enery to keep body temparature cold. The lecturer refuses it and argues that having a large body and warm temparature was a disadvantage. They had to spend a lot amount of energy to keep their body cold.

To conclude, the lecturer contradicts every reasons by providing different evidences and based on this it is possible that reasons of having large animal bodies are wrong.
