Integrated writing task
endotherms are animals such as modern birds or mammals that keep their body temperatures constant.
Scientists are not in agreement about dinosaurs being endotherms. the first argument that they make is with the idea of polar dinosaurs. Some scientists think that it is not compeling reason to say that just because a lot of the fossils found are in the polar regions, and living in the cold regions is not possibel during the cold season, they must be endotherms. They just as well could have been reptiles that migrate during the cold season.
Another difference of opinion between scientists is that some don't believe that the legs being positioned under the body is an evidence of being an endotherm. they think it could just be result of their evolution, because from physiological stand point, the legs under the body can support much higher weights. Although this idea does not explain anything about the activity of the dinosaurs.
Although the scientists agree on the existance of Haversian canals in the fossils, some say there are evidence of something called growth rings in fossiles that slows down the growth process in cold periods. This is important because an endotherm has a rapid growth, no regards to weather. Therefore the cannot be endotherms.
