In the reading, the author claims that theoretically dinosaurs survived along the winters by pointing out 3 reasons of supporting through migrating from unpleasant weather conditions like Alaska’s North Slope to warm places. One of most common dinosaurs that lives in this region is edmontosaur. However, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer totally repudiates the claim and presents some evidence to the contrary.
1. At first, the author argues that owing to the fact that edmontosaurs fed on plants to a great extant and Alaska’s North Slope plants do not grow in winters, they are have to migrate to a place to find food. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that this region’s summer in a hundred million years ago was wormer than today. Thereby, the warmth and extensive day light led to produce a plethora of plants and it was a perfect resource for winters and as a result they were not force to migrate for food.
2. In addition, the reading passage holds the view that edmontosaurs lived in herds so it is easy for them to migrate. On the contrary, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that there are other reasons for living in herd like preventing from predators. Also, Resovel Alk that lives in in herd in the United States and is large plant eater but does not migrate.
3. Finally, the author asserts these animals had been able to migrate long distances for a long time. As the last point for supporting migration of edmontosaurs. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by pointing out that even though they were vigorous, they could not left the juvenile behind. Because young animals both were not physically capable of migrating for a long distance and living with their own, adult edmontosaurs did not migrate.
