Harvard University is dropping a
requirement that applicants to its undergraduate college take
SAT subject tests.

While the Ivy League school still requires the SAT or ACT
entrance exam, applications will be considered without two
subject tests, according to the admissions website.

“Standardized testing is only one component of our
holistic admissions process and your application will be
evaluated on the basis of all of the other information that you
submit,” the school said on the website.

Applicants can also skip the test if it presents a
financial hardship, according to the admissions website. The
basic Subject Test costs $24.50, language with listening is $24
and all other subject tests are $13 per exam.

The College Board, owner of the SAT, said in March that it
was revamping the entrance exam for delivery in 2016, and the
now-mandatory writing section will become optional.

Harvard, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, accepted 5.9
percent of 34,295 freshman applications it received this year.
