Essay topics:

Tidal Power

The article discusses about Tidal Power. It explains the fact that this technology produces renewable electrical energy that provides many advantages to us. However, the professor discusses the article’s theory and casts doubts on its validity.

First, the passage states that Tidal power can produce enough alternative energy for human. It produces four periods of energy production in 24 hours from the differences between high and low tides. In contrast, the professor provides information that tidal power can make only a little energy compares to our need. Hence, she argues the idea that tidal power produce enough energy for human, since these dams are not locate in a good location.

Second, the article explains that the dam’s structure is used for controlling the water level for producing energy. However, the speaker describes that it possible drawbacks to the environment. The quality of the water will be changed and this will be a bad effect on the local wildlife such as fish and bird. Therefore, we can argue that indeed tidal power building affects to the eco-systems.

Finally, the passage mentions that this renewable energy give non-polluting or greenhouse effects. However, the lecturer contradicts the claim as it affects many aquatic creatures and the inter-tidal habitat could be damaged. Moreover, it can adversely affect the birds and other vegetation types. Also, people living in the area such as fishing boats will no longer navigate between the river mouth and the open sea. In this case, the economy of the area could be affected.

In conclusion, the points made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The professor points out that the creature of Tidal power affects environment and it could not produce enough energy as we need. Therefore, we can conclude that the passage fails to describe the disadvantage of Tidal power.
