The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University has printed a separate application format for the benefit of 208 students of the erstwhile DD Medical College.

The forms, which will be issued from Monday, will include a separate section for the courses, including engineering subjects that the students would like to opt for, vice-chancellor D. Shantharam said on Saturday.

The decision is in the aftermath of two students approaching the university with requests to allow them to join engineering colleges. “We had offered them the paramedical courses and pure sciences courses available with our university, Madras University and Annamalai University. But the students wanted more options and the government has given them a wider option considering their future is at stake,” he added.

The forms submitted by the students will be forwarded to the vice-chancellors of the respective universities for scrutiny.

Depending upon their eligibility and availability of seats, the students would be accommodated in the courses, said registrar Jhansi Charles.

As for engineering courses, the Anna University would follow the norms of All India Council Technical Education, Dr. Shantharam said.

Students of the academic years 2011-12 and 2012-13 have been demanding that they be absorbed in government medical colleges. But the State government has been helpless as the Medical Council of India has not relaxed its rules.
