Nov 18, 2016

We're connecting with the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending November 19, 2016.

Amid the enormous changes of the past week here in the United States, the Top Five chose to stand still...absolutely nothing shifts.

Number 5: D.R.A.M. Featuring Lil Yachty "Broccoli"

Let's kick it off in fifth place, where D.R.A.M. and Lil Yachty hold with “Broccoli.”
In only two years, D.R.A.M. has gone from working in a call center and sleeping on his cousin's couch to selling two million copies of his breakout hit. It holds in In addition, the Virginia artist just released his first full-length album Big Baby D.R.A.M., which last week debuted in 19th place on the Billboard pop album chart.

Number 4: DJ Snake Featuring Justin Bieber "Let Me Love You"

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber spend another week in fourth place with “Let Me Love You.” Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have been apart for some time and remain so: Selena's still in a rehab facility. However, both have landed on the American Music Awards list of Artist Of The Year nominees. The final group of five nominees emerged on November 14.

Number 3: Twenty One Pilots "Heathens"

Twenty One Pilots remains in a holding pattern, as “Heathens” stays put in third place. The Ohio duo was initially among the acts competing for Artist Of The Year honors at the American Music Awards. On November 14, that group was whittled down to the final five, and Twenty One Pilots didn't make the cut.

The short list consists of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Carrie Underwood. Trophies get handed out on November 20 in Los Angeles.

Number 2: The Weeknd "Starboy"

It's that kind of week for The Weeknd: he and Daft Punk just can't make it out of the runner-up slot with “Starboy.” Maybe he can console himself with an American Music Award or two: he's in the running for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R & B Male Artist.

Number 1: The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey "Closer"

The Chainsmokers and Halsey hold the Hot 100 title for a 12th week with “Closer.” Only 17 songs have ever held the championship for 12 weeks or longer.

The duo of Drew Taggart and Alex Paul also competes in four American Music Award races: New Artist Of The Year; Collaboration Of The Year, for “Don't Let Me Down” with Daya; Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group; and Favorite Dance Artist. Again, the big night happens on November 20.

That's next Sunday, which also means a new hit list. We'll see you in seven days!
