Older workers are being neglected by employers, Is this correct?
In any developed nation or a growing economy, we need a right mix of old and young workforce. Only a country that can use the wisdom of its older generation and the energy of its younger population can excel in all fields.
In the workplace, we can observe that often old workers are neglected and their efforts are not recognised. Many factories consider old employees as non-productive people and does not take much care of their wellbeing. In contrast, younger workers are given more incentives, given promotions and rewarding opportunities in the corporate world. This trend can be linked to all workplaces across many industries because the management thinks that young adults are tech-savy and smarter than their senior employees.
Senior employess tend to feel ashamed when their ideas are ignored and are not treat equally. Their sense of belonging to the company is reduced and hence affects their productivity as well. Discrimination against older workers should be treated as a offence to curb such harrassment to senior people in the organisation.
Rewarding employees only on the basis of merit and not on any other factor can avoid such discrimination. Companies should also try to harness the potential of seniors by giving them appropriate challenges and oppurtunities. In conclusion, any discrimination in any form on the basis of a person's age should be treated as an unlawful act.
