Topic: Public schools and private schools
Education is an important part of raising children and preparing them to live successful lives. Today, parents have choice in their child’s education and can evaluate both public schools and private schools. Although both public and private schools provide education and opportunities for students, there are many difference between public and private schools.
One obvious difference is the cost. Public schools are paid for by local taxes and, except for some small fees, are free, whereas private schools pay a lot of tuition. Private schools cost on average $10,740 a year but can range anywhere from $5,330 to $25,180, according to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Cost varies depending on the type of school children attend, with Catholic schools offering the best cost at $6,890 a year on average and nonsectarian schools coming in around $21,510.
The second difference is class size. The class size in urban public schools can be as large as 25 to 30 students (or more), but most private schools keep their class sizes only closer to an average of 10 to 15 students, depending on the school.
The third difference is the curriculum. -Public schools must follow the curriculum that is outlined by the state. The state outline a curriculum for each subject at each grade level. Private schools have the ability to set their own curriculum. Private schools might advertise specialized curriculum in other to entice students.
The final difference is teachers. At private schools teachers may or may not be certified but often hold a graduate degree or higher education, while at public schools teachers must meet all state-mandated requirements and be highly proficient in their subject area and most teachers have Masters Degrees.
Public schools and Private schools: different, yet alike. This helps the educational system become more diverse.
