Street food
How many street foods have you tried in VietNam? I think everyone has yet to enjoy all the street food because of the variety of dishes. So, everyone joins me to look at hot trend street food of the younger's community.
1. Bun dau mam tom(noodles with shrimp paste)
Bun dau mam tom is a simple dish but very popular in North Vietnam. Traditional Bun dau mam tom consists of rice noodles, crispy deep-fried tofu cube, shrimp paste, and herbs. Nowadays, Bun dau mam tom contains a lot more than just rice noodles and tofu. The dish also comes with green rice pork pie, fried blood sausage, pig’s skin, sliced pork, cucumber, and Vietnamese basil and perilla. The main flavor of this signature dish is mam tom, fermented shrimp paste sauce. The sauce creates a sweet and savory flavor combined with the spiciness of chili and the sour of lemon. The price of Bun dau mam tom is 20000- 30000 VND.
2. Pho
Pho is essentially Vietnam’s signature dish, comprising rice noodles in a flavourful soup with meat and various greens, plus a side of fermented fish or chili sauce. A basic bowl contains beef or chicken, topped with bean sprouts, lime wedges, and fresh herbs such as basil, mint, cilantro, and onions. Depending on the restaurant or roadside stall, you can also opt for more exotic ingredients such as beef tendon, thinly-sliced pig stomach, and flank with cartilage. Typically eaten for breakfast, pho is priced between 30,000 - 40,000 VND at a local restaurant or street market in Vietnam. Pho has shown its position not only in Vietnamese cuisine but also in world cuisine. Pho can be seen everywhere from street stalls to high-end restaurants.
3. Banh mi
Commonly well-known along with Pho, Vietnamese baguette sandwiches, called Banh Mi, have attracted a growing fan base around the world. The uniqueness of Banh mi not only lies within the light and crispy baguette, but also the variation of flavors Vietnam fillings bring out the most amazing flavor. Banh mi is a unique French-Vietnamese sandwich that’s great for when you’re in need of a quick meal. Priced between 10000-20000 VND, it consists of a toasted baguette sandwich, pickled vegetables, pate, butter, soy sauce, cilantro, chilies, etc. Most banh mi sellers also offer a wide range of meat fillings, including roasted pork belly, fried egg, grilled pork loin, fried fish with turmeric and dill, boiled sausages, Chinese barbecued pork, poached chicken. With its reputation, Banh mi is considered to be the essence of Vietnamese cuisine. It is a must-try that even the pickiest eaters can’t resist.
4. Pancakes(banh xeo)
Pancakes in Vietnam have many different origins. The central pancake is from Binh Dinh, and the western pancake is from the Khmer. Although there are many origins, the methods of processing the pancakes are all the same, the flavoring can be different from one region to another. This is a bold traditional dish for Vietnamese people. Especially on rainy days, eating a hot and crispy pancake is nothing more wonderful. The main ingredients for making pancakes are: flour, shrimp, meat, bean sprouts, chopped scallions. Served with pancakes will be a sweet-spicy sauce, along with a basket of raw vegetables. It can be said, this is the dish that most people love. Because pancakes is quite delicious and easy to eat.
5. Hu Tieu
When mentioning Pho, people will immediately think of the North, when it comes to vermicelli, people will immediately think of the Central region and when it comes to Hu Tieu (noodles), people will immediately think of the South. Noodles are rustic and street food. Especially in Ho Chi Minh City, you will easily find trolleys selling noodles. With its cracked nose flavor, you won’t be able to resist this dish. The main ingredients of a bowl of noodles include noodles, pork or beef, fish or beef rolls, and soup. Soup and noodles are the two main ingredients that decide a good noodle dish. not delicious. Enjoy a bowl of noodles for just 15,000 VND.
All dishes have their own flavors and characteristics of each region in Vietnam, which are the quintessential things that man has created to have good food. I hope you will discover many delicacies on the S-shaped strip of land.
