what

Despite the short-term benefits of working four days a week for employees, which is being less error-prone and taking much more time into their personal life, it increases multiple risks such as losing their jobs or the chance of a promotion.

That is because having more employees will rise extra fixed-costs for companies, such as welfare, health insurances, more workspace and more training costs, which does not depend on the work-week length.

So in case of an economic turn-down, the four-days a week employees are more likely to lose their jobs.

Even in the case of need for a new manager, companies are more likely to prefer a full-week manager rather than the other option. So there is probably a lot less chance for a four-days a week employee to get a raise in salary or a promotion in position.

In addition to all that is said above, with the risk of loosing jobs raising, and therefore decreased job stability, in addition to the risks such as companies' high expectation of those employees(i.e expecting the full amount of work in one less day), will overcome the benefits of spending one more day a week for the family.

As a matter of fact, the option is not even presentable in favour of decreasing the costs for companies, as it is proven to increase them.
