Arts Financial support

The reading selection and the professor discussed art’s financial support. While the reading mentions it is difficult for artists to support themselves financially, the lecturer disagrees. Both reading and listening show three main points: government funds and patrons, unpopular artists and investment.

According to the passage, artists are funded by governments and private patrons, allowing them to live on while they create their art. However, the lecturer opposes by saying it isn’t fair to treat artists different and show that great artist have existed before governmental grants.

The author of the reading mentions that experimental artists are the ones that need more support because of their lack of commercial potential. Nevertheless, the lecture argues un popular artists can get art related jobs, such as art teachers or commercial artists, to obtain money.

As the text states, art is a good investment, as shown in a study, it generates more money than what it’s spent. On the other hand, the listening clarifies, this study was conducted thought performing artists and sometimes it could be a waste of money.

Generally speaking, although the reading and lecture are both about artist’s financial support, the main points in the passage are challenged by the lecturer by supporting his point of view with various studies. Now you have been presented with all the facts you can make your own conclusion.
