Drug addiction is becoming an increasing problem. In order to reduce this problem, anyone caught using drugs should be automatically sentenced to time in prison. Do you agree or disagree?
Drug addiction is an alarming threat to many societies in the world. It is now leading to an unhealthy lifestyle and setting bad trends all over the world. Some people suggest that it would be better if those caught red-handed using drugs be imprisoned. In my opinion, I disagree with the aforementioned resolution.
First of all, I agree that some of the addicts do turn over a new leaf at the prison. But once they return to society, they will continue to be addicted to the drug. Because in prison, there aren’t any rehabilitation programs that can help them to know about the bad effects of drugs. Therefore, there is no point in putting them behind bars. However, if addicts are sent to rehabilitation centers, they will be treated for their addiction. Family and friends play an important role in encouraging them to build up a new life.
On the other hand, some people say that if the drug addicts aren’t given intense punishment, they won’t change and continue to misuse drugs. This is mainly because society doesn’t accept the prisoners as a part of them. If the society and the people surrounding give the addicts a second chance, they will never abuse drugs again. The support alone is not enough, we also have to report about drug abuse in the residential areas. The awareness of drug abuse is very important, it can help to reduce drug addicts but don’t have to put the addicts into jail.
To sum up, Each of us deserves a second chance in life. We are human beings and we learn from our mistakes and avoid it to happen again. I believe that sending the drug addicts to rehabilitation centers will be better than sending them to prison which makes them lose hopes!
