Some people say that the increasing business and cultural contact between countries has positive effects, while others think that many countries will lose their national identities as a result. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The growing globalization in terms of international commercial activities and cultural exchange, which interconnect the different parts of world in a globalized village, is often viewed as a promising development due to its effectiveness in not only increasing availability of larger livelihood opportunities, and higher living standards for local citizens in underdeveloped countries, through tourism according to some advocates. In contrast, others disagree that we should not overlook the dangers from the loss of national specialties, the major detrimental impact of interconnected globe. This essay will discuss both aforementioned views and conclude the author’s point of view.
Borderless commerce and cultural relationships foster the necessity of an international language, connecting between nations which have different types of verbal languages, and dialects, threatening the world cultural diversity. The benefits of determining the most chosen spoken languages can be clearly seen in better collaborations among countries, contributing the efficient of transnational commercial trade, and cultural associations. As a result, the dominance of affluent countries ‘cultures is inevitable, speeding up the disappearance of others’ minor cultural identity. For example, Vietnamese young generations currently favor American and Korean songs, films and TV shows rather than their traditional folksongs, dances and dramas due to the uncontrollable diffusion and integration of the foreign customs, leading to the distortion of the Vietnamese-origin practices. Despite of that fact, if the local authorities could take action with some realistic measures such as organizing local cultural exploring tour for both foreigners and inhabitants, or in any form of advertisement of inferior culture to the world, mostly through international tourism, then national identities still be well-preserved because of its uniqueness.
Regarding to the positive attributes of globalization, the advancement of worldwide tourism industry offer golden benefits for low-skilled labor and the government in less-developed countries to access to stable income employment. This is due to the needs of entertainment and exploring new destinations or learning a different culture for some considerable period of time at length, particularly when people urge to take a rest by participating social activities in local areas or sightseeing historical and natural attractions. Tourism increases the rate of employment with stable income for low-educated and high-skilled workers, innovate roads, highways and other public facilities such as hotel and accommodations to meet global standards and provoke a greater consumption, or greater amount of foreign exchange earnings for that country, therefore, there is no doubt to say that tourism is a significant economic growth contributor, helping the poor to possess a better living conditions. For example, by optimizing the stunning, and attracting landscape, and UNESCO Heritage sites, Bali islands in Indonesia had become one of the must-visit tourist attractions in Asia, with thousands of foreigners visiting Bali annually, generating a large number of jobs for the locals although critics underlines the importance of preserving natural resources from being environmentally degraded because of the unconscious of few tourists of pollution.
In conclusion, although there is no doubt that globalization is critically destroying the cultural diversity and somehow speeding up the environmental degradation, in my opinion, interconnected world’s advantages still outweigh its negative impacts because the increasing socioeconomic development of less developed nations by the rapid growth of tourism industry had promote a better living quality for local citizens, and fulfillment in terms of earning more money than ever before.
