Keeping animals in zoos is cruel

Essay topics:

Keeping animals in zoos is cruel

These days, Zoos are popular places for people to visit for entertainment and to learn about wild animals. However, they received the flow of mixed opinions. Many people believe that animals should live in nature while others think Wildlife Park brings a tremendous amount of benefit for both them and humans. In this essay, I will shed some light on opposing sides of this viewpoint and then give my opinion.
The first thing is that zoos have an important role in protecting wild animals. As statistics suggest, the number of wild animals in danger of extinction is increasing rapidly due to many reasons such as changing environment, an encroaching forest of the human. Therefore, zoos are useful places where many scientists study and stay breeds of rare animals. In addition, no sooner had zoos built than many of people had jobs such as zookeeper.Zoos are the only safe environment to protect them from poachers, predators, or help them breed.
Secondly, these facilities give an educational resource for their communities. a zoo trip is always the best choice to educate kids through presenting a real tiger or a dolphin in front of their faces. Through observation, students can leave with an impressed vision and get knowledge about the habits of animals and other physical features which is helpful to increase their awareness of wild animals and environmental protection. Moreover, zoos often offer opportunities for scientists to do various experiments. It is easy for researchers to see animals’ habitat and wildlife environment, then they will predict wild animals’ actions and encode their behavior. From that, they can find ways to cure diseases and possibly help rare species extend their population.

On the other hand, keeping animals in the zoos can change the behavior of the animal when they meet long periods of captivity. Being stuck in the same enclosure every day also disrupts the natural migratory patterns of the species, which can have a dramatic impact on their mental health. Animals in zoos and other forms of captivity suffer from stress and depression and display unusual behaviours.
In conclusion, zoos also do have many inevitable drawbacks. However, there is no doubt that building a zoo also makes contributions such as protecting rare animals and its educational meaning. We also have to pay attention to the states of the zoos to create a suitable environment for animals' overall development.
