Traffic congestion
Hi guys, welcome to my presentation. Let me introduce myself, my name is Hai Anh. And my student code is A34466. Today I’m going to talk about traffic congestion. So, before we get into the topic, I would like to ask you a question: What do you know about the current traffic situation in Vietnam?
I am delighted to be here today to answer this question.
The purpose of this talk is to put you in the picture about the realities of Vietnam's traffic. For you to easy to understand, my presentation has 3 parts: infrastructure and vehicle issues; shortcomings and irresponsibility of those involved in operating and managing traffic; lastly, the consciousness of Vietnamese people in traffic.
I shall only take 4 minutes of your time. And if you have any questions, you can ask me after my presentation. Thank you.
First of all, I'd like to give you some background information about infrastructure and vehicle issues. A large number of authorities invested in the road but just a few had a good quality. Some routes just need light rain that will be damaged or flooded. Besides, the usage of the motorcycle is going up. According to a specific survey, Vietnam took a second position that had the largest motorcycles ownership in the world after Taiwan. In statistics in early 2016, a number of registered motorcycles in Vietnam was over 37 million, and as many as 9,000 new motorcycles join the roads each day. During the prime time of every day, especially holidays, we can see a long line of trapped traffic.
Secondly, there are still some shortcomings and irresponsibility of those involved in operating and managing traffic. Many traffic police officers offer informal fines and often take bribes instead of abiding by legal procedures and regulating traffic in a systematic manner.
Finally, the sense of participation in traffic of Vietnamese is poor. They go fast and routinely cross the red light. When being stuck at congestion, most people ride their motorbikes on the sidewalk rather than waiting, or constantly use horns to hasten riders in the front, even shouting at them from time to time. And It is not an uncommon sight to see two to four people on a single motorbike.
These are the actual realities of Vietnam's traffic, and because of those, the proportion of accidents in Vietnam still ranked in the top 10 nations of traffic accidents in the world despite a lot of traffic police, traffic inspectors, police officers, etc.
That brings me to the end of my presentation. Thank you for your attention.
