Essay topics:

Public figures such as actors, politicians, and athletes should expect people to be interested in private lives. When they seek a public role, they should expect that they will lose at least some of their privacy.

The speaker asserts that being or aspiring to become a politician, athlete, actor or any other celebrity, always entails an underlying and unspoken caveat that they should be prepared for at least some amount of intrusion in their lives. On the face value, this seems unfair and outrageous, almost indefensible, but the reality of the world that we live in forces us to face some seemingly unjust facts; Some things that should not be, but are.

A celebrity, today, is a beneficiary of undying adulation, awe and an almost god-like veneration. Since, people put public figures on such a high pedestal and give them a larger than life image, they expect the celebrity to conform to the highest values and morals of the society. The media au contraire, relishes this fact and feeds on it. It knows that everyone is flawed and some celebs more than the others. Hence, the paparazzi are on a continuous lookout for slips from the moral high ground and while on a look out they often blatantly invade the privacy of the targeted celebrities. The reasons they offer are pretty simple:"If they have nothing to hide then they should not be afraid of someone looking in". Yet this very explanation shakes the entire foundation of the ideals on which this country was found. To gather titillating news, spicy gossips and uninformed photographs celebs are literally stalked every way they go. There is a compelling need to enforce stringent laws to curb this and to educate the public about how inherently cruel this is.

However, some form of surveillance and look out is indeed concomitant with the celebrity status. Since practically, this world isn't ideal. People love a scandal, a fall from grace if you may, it helps them get over their boring lives and gives them something to look forward to in the evening while sitting in front of the idiot box. And so, there are always going to be pesky journalists with their privacy frustrating cameras sneaking about and the proverbial burying your head in the sand won't really help. In case of some attention seeking insecure public figures, this might even be beneficial for them to be relevant in a world where they don't offer a lot of quality content. Some political figures have turned political scandals, occurring due to the ever vigilant media and paparazzi, into advantageous positions by public debating their life choices and proving their veracity or by apologizing publicly which has a more often than not made them a media darling.

In the end, it might be pretty easy to say that celebrity or a public figure status doesn't really come with a fine print that says: "You've got no privacy hereon." and hence so much media a public intrusion in private lives of celebrities is unjust and plain wrong but we need to acknowledge the fact that as long as the public is interested, the camera's will never stop flashing and the journalist will never stop snooping, it helps if you can turn this into an advantage though.
