Overall, it is clearly evident that, handheld games were by far the most purchased game globally, with sales on mobile phone games steadily rising over the period.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, in 2000 nearly 12 billion dollars were accrued from selling handheld games, with around a half of that figure representing sales made on console games. Interestingly, there seem to be lack of interest shown in mobile phone and online games, however, in 2001, a negligible purchases on online games were noted. After one year (2002), a mere 2 billion dollars were made from both online and mobile phone games with as much as 15 billion dollars and 5 billion dollars made on handheld and console games respectively.
By the year end, handheld games, mobile phone games and online games experienced a similar increasing trend. Sales made globally on online games and mobile phone games were 9 billion dollars and 7 billion dollars respectively, with sales in handheld games peaking at 18 billion dollars. The purchases on console on the other hand, remained fairly stable over the period.
